150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore
Dartington10 May to 12 May 2011 A three day celebration of Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary at the Nehru Centre.

4 May 2011 A special year to commemorate Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary began in a befitting manner with the Tagoreans participation in the week long prestigious with Satish KumarTagore Festival- (many consider the biggest festival of Tagore outside India) at the Dartington Hall Devon.

The event held on 4 May consisted of two parts. The first part focused on Tagore’s idea of progressive education and abiding internationalism reflected in Tagore’s Nobel Prize acceptance speech, an abridged version of which was read out by Sujit Bhattachrjee, the Chairperson of the Tagoreans. The second part featured “From Sriniketon to Dartington”- a presentation with narrations, songs and dance of Tagore’s path breaking contributions to the upliftment of rural life, which received high praise.

10 May 2011 A seminar was held at the Nehru Centre on Tagore's multifaceted creativity in the presence of the High Commissioners of India and Bangladesh- Sri Nalin Surie and Dr Mohammad Sayeedur Rahman Khan. The seminar was chaired by Professor Tapan Raychaudhuri Emeritus Fellow from Oxford University and the distinguished panel of speakers included Dr William Radice, eminent poet, translator and scholar, Dr Ana Jelinkar an academic writer from Slovenia, and Valerie Doulton the Artistic Director of the Live Literature Company.

11 May 2011 Tagoreans in collaboration with the South Asian Cinema Foundation (SACF) presented illustrates talks on “Tagore Plays in London”. The speakers were Lalit Mohan Joshi, the renowned documentary filmmaker/ film historian and Director SACF and his wife Kusum Joshi, a social historian.

12 May 2011 The three day programme concluded with the screening of a documentary by the renowned film maker Satyajit Ray on Rabindranath Tagore with an informative talk about the documentary by Lalit Mohan Josjhi, Director South Asian Cinema Foundation a Film historian and a well known Documentary film maker.
